'Airwolf' was a 1980's American television show, about a high-tech helicopter, with an unmatched arsenal of weaponry and defences. It was largely influenced by the success of the film 'Blue Thunder'. It ran for four seasons, and at the time, was one of the main, popular 'technology based' programmes,..."like 'Knight Rider' in the air". Brief back-story A government agency known only as 'The FIRM', embark on the creation of a high-tech, tactical and aerial weapon. The weapon of choice - a helicopter system with advanced technology, and superior weaponry. 'Dr. Charles Henry Moffet', lead scientist, number-one pilot and head of the 'Airwolf' program, demonstrates the full force of the helicopter, during final tests of the prototype. He uses the Airwolf prototype, of which there was only one built, to destroy the test facilities, and erases the prototype’s plans so no other helicopter can be built. He then steals Airwolf, heading for Libya, and plans to sell it to 'Colonel Qadafi'. While in Libya, Airwolf remains in hostile hands, so The FIRM choose 'Michael Coldsmith Briggs III', to head the search and retrieval operation. Michael Briggs, codenamed 'Archangel', enlists the help of 'Stringfellow Hawke'. Hawke, being one of the test pilots during the Airwolf program, was the only other person who has flown Airwolf. Hawke steals Airwolf from its Libyan stronghold, and kills Dr. Moffet in the process. After flying it back to America, he refuses to hand Airwolf over to The FIRM, until they can find his brother 'St. John', who is MIA in Vietnam. Hawke hides Airwolf in a remote desert area, known as 'Valley of the Gods', in a cave which is referred to as the 'lair'. The lair is an extinct volcano, which has a large opening at the top, leading down into a cavern, with only one ground based entrance. Now, under the watchful eye of Archangel, Hawke and his friend 'Dominic Santini', use Airwolf to embark on missions of national concern, defending America from hostile forces, and taking part in numerous rescue missions. |
